Avalon was an active member of Women Leading Action (WLA), a provincial coalition of women and community based organizations. In 1997-98 the coalition produced a resource kit, “Sharing the Talk, Sharing the Work”. The kit is a community development tool to assist communities in working together to take action on violence against women.

1999-2000, the WLA also laid the foundation for an initiative that was to later become known as the Nova Scotia Coalition of Women for Justice and hosted two provincial meetings. Status of Women Canada funded these initiatives.
