CURRENT INITIATIVES
All planned initiatives for the 2003 Legal Education Program have been completed. We're in the process of having four new training manuals posted to this website. These were a major focus of the program in 2003. These four training resource manuals enable service providers to access information and tools to assist them with establishing policies, protocols, procedures, and standards of practice to govern how they respond to victims of sexual assault. The training/resource manuals focus on the following four areas of sexual assault and the law:
1. Sexual Assault Awareness and Response Training for First Responders.
2. The Medical and Reporting Process After Sexual Assault
3. Confidentiality and Record Keeping Issues: Best Practices
4. Secondary Wounding and the Legal System
Watch for them on the RESOURCE MATERIALS page soon.
With the 2003 project completed we are now developing the program of 2004 initiatives.
The general objective of this project continues to be to reduce the barriers that sexually assaulted women experience in accessing the criminal justice system by improving the overall legal knowledge of a variety of professional groups who provide services to these women.
Through the past three projects we have developed new and strengthened existing partnerships with agencies province wide. This has enabled us all to improve our knowledge of the legal system and sexual assault issues thus improving our responses to victims/survivors of sexual violence.
