LEGAL EDUCATION PROJECT
ANNUAL TRAINING CONFERENCE
Improving the Service Provider’s Response to Survivors of Sexual Violence.
The Avalon Centre is pleased to host a Provincial Training Conference for community-based agencies which provide front line support, advocacy and referral for victims of sexual assault. This conference provides education, training, and practical skills for helping professionals pertaining to sexual violence and the law. This conference is offered to those community-based agencies who have been identified by other service providers or who have identified themselves as needing/benefiting from sexual assault legal education. Issues surrounding the reporting of sexual abuse/assault, note taking/storage of records, subpoenas, testifying in court, confidentiality, victims rights, advocates & support people, and the criminal justice process are addressed.
The first conference took place in November, 2001. A success by all accounts the conference returned in 2002 and 2003, each year with improvements, varying topics and activities.
