PROGRAMS AND SERVICES:
AFTER HOURS RESPONSE LINE
In collaboration with Help Line, Avalon provides an after hours crisis line
for individuals dealing with a recent sexual assault (one that has occurred
within the last seven days). On-call volunteer workers are available after
hours, on weekends, and on holidays. During office hours, a counselor from
Avalon Centre will respond, although due to scheduled appointments and other
office commitments, a counselor may not always be immediately available.
The After Hours Crisis Line Volunteer Workers Do Provide:
- Services to those 16 years old and older
- Confidential and non-judgmental support
- Immediate support, advocacy and referral
- Information regarding options and supports

After Hours Crisis Line Volunteer Workers Do Not:
- Assist with the police investigation
- Assist with giving a police statement (they will accompany you but not help with the actual statement)
- Respond to the crime scene or the victim’s home
- Provide services to anyone under 16 years of age
- Provide professional counseling
